Abstract
Eriophyoid mites (Eriophyoidea) represent the largest superfamily in the Acari. However, their cryptic diversity in the temperate regions remains unclear. In this study, we described and illustrated eight new eriophyoid mite species from Sichuan Province, China. They are Shevtchenkella ludingica sp. nov. on Platycladus orientalis (L.) Franco (Cupressaceae), Epitrimerus fortuner sp. nov. on Euonymus fortunei (Turcz.) Hand.-Mazz. (Celastraceae), Epitrimerus emeiensis sp. nov. on Rosa sp. (Rosaceae), Phyllocoptes neoshirakis sp. nov. on Neoshirakia japonica (Siebold & Zucc.) Esser (Euphorbiaceae), Aculops kakies sp. nov. on Diospyros kaki Thunb. (Ebenaceae), Aculops tetrandrus sp. nov. on Celtis tetrandra Roxb. (Cannabaceae), Tegolophus danbaensis sp. nov. on Rhamnus parvifolia Bunge (Rhamnaceae), and Rhyncaphytoptus davidex sp. nov. on Acer davidii subsp. grosseri (Pax) P.C.de Jong (Sapindaceae). All eight species described herein are vagrants on their host plants. A list of eriophyoid mites from Sichuan Province was provided.
